What is .MUSIC?
The Community is a “strictly delineated and organized community of individuals, organizations and business, a logical alliance of communities of similar nature that relate to music.” It represents an overwhelming majority of the global music community, especially those constituents involved in the legal production, promotion and distribution of music worldwide.
The DotMusic Application is supported by clearly delineated and organized music community organizations (Music Community Member Organizations or “MCMOs”) whose memberships and associations represent a majority of the overall global music community.
Types of supporting MCMOs include International and National Label Associations; International and National Music Associations; International Federation of Government Ministries of Culture; Arts Councils; International Federation of Musicians; Music Information Offices; Lyrics Aggregators and Music Publishers; Online Music Communities; Digital Distributors and Aggregators; Music Export Offices; the Global Independent Music Community; Collection Agencies and Music Rights Organizations; Country-based Music Coalitions; Music Conferences and Festivals; Music Industry Professionals; Conductors; Managers; Music Big Data for Apps and Developers; Music Library and Archives; Music Educators; and other entity types.
Music organizations can support DotMusic’s Mission and Purpose to launch a trusted, safe and authenticated .MUSIC domain extension that is community-governed by sending a DotMusic Letter of Support to ICANN, the governing body of the Internet’s domain space.
Legal music organizations of non-negligible size can also qualify to become a DotMusic .MUSIC-accredited MCMO to offer .MUSIC domains to their members and be given priority during the MCMO domain allocation phase.
