You can help .music today: Sign petition to support music rights
The .MUSIC domain name (i.e. www.[yourname].music) will soon be available for registration. DotMusic’s .MUSIC Initiative, supported by organizations representing over 95% of global music consumed, needs your help to launch a safe, responsible and trusted .MUSIC domain that is run by the Music Community for people like you.
DotMusic’s goal is to clean up the online world by making .MUSIC only available to the Music Community. This means the Music Community can claim the names that are rightfully theirs and put an end to the frustrations when names are registered by others, whose sole purpose is to sell them at a premium. Also, .MUSIC has policies to protect music rights, including mandating only legal music content and suspending any .MUSIC domain with obvious mass copyright infringement.
Today, DotMusic needs your help to push this community application across the finish line. If DotMusic’s initiative doesn’t succeed, major players like Google and Amazon – that do not share our views and policies on music rights – may end up controlling the rights to these domains.
The EIU and ICANN (the internet governing body responsible for approving this application) are in the process of evaluating whether DotMusic should secure the rights for .MUSIC as a community. This is where you come in. Now is the time for you to show support.
Supporting this important cause takes a few seconds. Digitally signing this support letter is all that is required (regardless whether you are a musician/band, industry professional or organization) and DotMusic will file it with ICANN/EIU.
Creating a clean, safe and trusted digital ecosystem for music is something that serves the public interest and benefits all, including creators and fans. Your support could make a major difference in the way we consume music in the future.
P.S. If you know other Music Community members that would support this music cause, please forward them this email and URL (https://music.us/sign)
